The Regent Street
Cinema is an independent exhibition venue which is one of the oldest cinemas in
the UK.
On the 6th of May 2015 it has finally been reopened after more than 30 years
behind closed doors. The venue was opened by the Lumière Brothers and is considered
the 'birthplace of British cinema'. The
renovation of the cinema took 3 years and cost £6.1million. All the art deco
features from the cinema’s first renovation in the 1920s have been restored, as
well as the domed ceiling and even the original 1936 organ which was used to
soundtrack silent films. All of the chairs in the cinema have been dedicated to
someone which makes the place unique compared to other cinemas. I think that
the overall design has really nice details that make the experience more
enjoyable as the whole place appears both elegant and homely. I therefore felt very honoured to
be able to visit such a unique cinema.
